One Angered Consumer

This Bennigan’s is closed for dinner… and ever

Our country’s current economic hardships have finally gotten to be too much to handle for me. First, it was the ridiculous gas prices. Then bread, milk and other basic groceries started inflating their prices. Now it has hit right where it counts… dining establishments. Too much!

A few weeks back, Starbucks announced the closure of hundreds of its locations to limit costs and try to stabilize its companies recent profit losses. Sure, in most big cities there are coffee joints on every street corner. Starbucks are a dime a dozen in these places. Well, not where I live. We have 3 in the entire town… and 2 of them are closing. Both of the closing locations have only been open for a couple months. What gives? Now where will I get my white mochas and caramel macchiatos? Unacceptable.

What can be worse than my favorite coffee joints going down? Bennigan’s, that’s what! Today, the restaurant giant filed for bankruptcy. Apparently the hard times have slowed down the traffic at eateries nationwide and Bennigan’s just couldn’t keep their financial head above water. There is no word yet on how many locations will be lost but I have to assume the one in my neighborhood will likely close. No more Turkey O’Tools or Southwest Samplers or Monte Cristos! How will I go on?!

It must stop America! We need our food and drink. It is essential to life. Go out to eat and save these places from oblivion. No more of this saving money by making the “smart” choice and staying home from time to time. That just will not do!

Oh, by the way, to all you Republicans out there… it’s good to know those tax rebates worked the way they were supposed to. Thanks again G.W.!

Not only great eateries are filing. Department store great and fasion conglomerate Mervyns has also filed bancruptcy. Where am I supposed to buy my clothes now?! Max 10 here I come.

I believe the Michigan Bennigans are all privately owned and not subject to closings. You’re turkey o’toole is safe.

Bennigans? Really? Home of the $9 reuben and the $14 sampler platter? No thanks, I like my crappy frozen and prepackaged food to be a bit cheaper than as if it wear acually good. How bout supporting localy owned, non-chain establishments!

If Bennigan’s closes, who gets the hostess podium? I think it would be a great addition to my home decor.

This is when it starts hurting me the most…restaurants are closing. I can handle $4/gallon gas and eggs costing $2 a dozen but please don’t close my favorite food joints! (although bennigan’s is not my favorite, actually not even in my top 10) but still it hits close to home!

i was reading a reviewers Top 20 Greatest albums of all time list on Yahoo today. It made me wonder what mestew’s favorite albums of all time were? I remember a post about greatest movies but have you done one about albums yet?

Ask and you shall receive, Katy.

A. Over 100 franchise sites will not be closing and the 200 restaurants closing includes Steak and Ales.
B. This was a long time coming, well before gas prices and food $$ soared. Chapter 11 wasn’t even filed to try and restructure the bankruptcy!!
C. There are far too many restaurants in this category, they can’t compete.
D.If Louis Vuitton is turning a profit as reported by the Wall Street Journal today than we can’t be doing too bad out there! Americans are still paying for luxury goods!! So yes, I think the Americans have spent their rebate money just fine!!

Thats because the majority of Americans, myself included, are idiots who dont have the will power to save money, which in turn perpetuates their own economic downfall. Futhermore, Bennigans is hardly the “Louis Vuitton” of the restaurant industry.

You want good restaurants? I’ll give you good restaurants…..all locally owned
1. The Corner Bar and Grill, corner of Mills and Vine Sts. Best ribs in town. All you can eat on Tuesdays for 9.95.
2. Cooper Cafe….Douglas Ave near D Ave…fabulouso breakfasts.
3. Lenny’s Sub Shop….2 locations…Stadium Dr and S. Westnedge
4. Texas Roadhouse…..S. Westnedge
5. Belle Sorrelle…Richland…..you like Italian? They got it.

You don’t have to go to a chain necessarily for a good meal. At most of the places I’ve mentioned, the food is good and is priced fairly.

And Estew…..what are you, some kind of sissy? Drink your coffee black. Man up, son.

And yes, I realize Texas Roadhouse and Lenny’s are chains. :)

Yeah but the Texas Roadhouse is all kinds of awesome.

Well I know that its bad when it hits my precious golden arches. The other day after a long night of alcohol consumption I needed my sausage burrito. At that point the only thing that would have helped my recovery was plain old lead filled fountain water. Well that cup was $ .75. I understand that people want to scam the fast food chain and fill up with soda. But I was going through the drive thru.will that stop me from going there? No. But it goes th show you that even food joints need to take all measures to meet the bottom line.

I agree Texas Roadhouse is all kinds of awesome. In fact i propose estew that the Hen House go there soon.

I think Chili’s and the Pizza Ranch will always be my two favorite chain restaurants. Never heard of the Pizza Ranch? Then your life may never be complete.

Oh, then there is this…
