The Favre Saga Might Actually Be Over

If you have paid any attention to sports news over the past month, you’ve surely heard about Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers. If you’ve been living in a cave, I’ll give you a brief overview: every year for the past couple years Brett Favre says he’s going to retire but comes back; this past year he really did retire; a Minnesota Vikings coach tells Brett he should ask the Packers to release his rights so he can play for him; Brett asks and the Packers say no; Brett whines in public; the Packers say, “you can be our backup QB but we’re not trading you to our division rival;” Brett feels he’s already done enough damage to the Packers and agrees to be traded elsewhere.
Ok, now that we’re all caught up, he was finally traded last night to the New York Jets. It’s an interesting deal too. According to NFL.com, the Packers will receive a fourth-round draft pick in 2009 for Favre. The selection would turn into a third-rounder if he plays in 50 percent of the plays this season, a second-rounder if he plays in 70 percent and the Jets make the playoffs, or a first-round pick if he plays in 80 percent and the Jets make it to the Super Bowl.

My guess is they will still end up with the fourth round pick next year. Jets might go 8-8 if they are lucky.

Why would they want Favre? Don’t they still have Vinny Testaverde?

i am glad its over… watching sportscenter for the last week has been brutal. today they even called it ‘favrecenter’… now they can get back to their regularly scheduled yankees and red sox ass kissing.

Yankees asskissing? What planet are you on Craig? Everyone knows ESPN is the Dallas Cowboys media outlet. As for Favre….I’ve lost all respect for the guy…and be prepared for another dog and pony show after the season.

I agree with Craig. I stopped watching Sports Center in the month of July because I was so sick of hearing about Favre. He should have stayed retired. Well at least now he can make his interception record that much harder to break.
