Olympic Fever

I can’t believe I am saying this, but I like the Olympics. That is tough for me to comprehend because up until this past week I have not been a fan. It could be Michael Phelps’s dominating performances that drew me in. It might have been the magical (an allegedly video enhanced) atmosphere of Beijing during the Opening Ceremonies. Perhaps it is just the hotness factor of the U.S. Gymnastic, Swimming, and Beach Volleyball teams. Whatever it is, I am now hooked. I even watch crap like this…

What has the world come to? Are you guys enjoying the Olympics or am I alone here?

I am on the same page as you E-Stew. I spent six hours in a bar in Chicago yesterday watching men’s indoor volleyball. It wasn’t even the US playing! If you tuned into the Ocho you would have caught the Ro Sham Bo and competitive knitting finals. My only gripe is the lack of wagering on judged events. I’ve got a dollar on that little Romanian chick scoring at least a fifteen on vault. What an Olympics!

This one had me in shock and awe. As a gym rat myself I know this had hurt as much as it looked like it did. Warning:Not for the weak stomach. ( seethe you tube URL below

Is this that wierd show that is taking up all the airtime on NBC? With Preseason football airing all over the place, and the MLB pennent chases heating up, there are so many REAL sports going on that I didnt even notice an Olympics was going on! Who knew?

Hell, I’m even watching Dressage. I’m watching stuff I’d normally pass by. Field hockey? I’m watching. Rowing? Sure. I figure it’s a major, major event, and the US is involved, and it’s once every four years, so yeah, we’re watching.

I love the obscure olympic moments this time around… like the badmitton player who withdrew with an injury or the shooting guy who had his medals stripped because of doping…
