Glory Days: Nickelodeon Super Toy Run

When I was a kid, I LOVED Nickelodeon’s Super Toy Run. If you’re not familiar with what it was or just don’t remember, kids that watched Nickelodeon could sign up for a random drawing to go on a toy shopping spree. If they picked your name, you had five minutes to run through Toys R Us with a shopping cart and anything you could fit in the cart, you kept. And the coolest part: they taped the whole thing and showed it on Nickelodeon! I remember filling out a postcard every year (because that was the rule) saying I wanted to be in the Super Toy Run and sending it to some address in New York, NY. I always found that odd since it was in Florida. Of course, I was never picked. I also remember watching the kids run through the store and taking their time on what they selected for the cart. Now, I may have been just a kid, but I remember thinking, “c’mon, grab it and go!” Seriously, the kid could have sorted out the G.I. Joes AFTER he got them home, not while he’s killing five precious minutes!
Ah, glory days.

You may not have won the Toy Run but…I remember a Halloween morning that you answered the phone when it rang saying, “Nick or Treat” and won a great prize from Nickelodeon.

You were never picked because you were sending your post card to Stick Stickley in New York. Super Toy Run’s address WAS in Orlando.
