A.I. Considering Retirement?
Authored by guest contributor, Brian Meyers.
The latest of the Allen Iverson saga in Memphis has now taken a new turn; Retirement. Yep, A.I is considering retirement.
When Allen came into the NBA, many suspected him to have a Hall of Fame type career, which unarguably he has. But what many didn’t suspected is that the foot note he leaves on basketball will be smaller then his questionable 6’ stature. Allen has been a prolific scorer throughout his NBA career and currently ranks 17th on the all-time scoring list with just over 24,000 points. On list that features some of the biggest names in the game; Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, Kobe Bryant, ect. But even though this alone may be enough to push him into the Basketball Hall of Fame, his basketball legacy will be more about the constant whining and lack of winning.
How can someone that can absolutely score at will, never seem to win a championship? It never mattered who he was surrounded by (think Denver), Allen is plain and simple a bad teammate.
He eventually wore out his welcome in Phily. Denver shipped him and then became one of the elite teams in the NBA, and after a short and disappointing stay in Detroit, He ended up with the only team that had any interest; The Memphis Grizzlies. He now says it’s about winning, but did he not look at the Grizzlies records over the past few years? They were the only team that wanted him and now, they don’t. So now that Iverson has reached the finally few years of his very good (statistically) career, we all get to endure Allen being Allen, a selfish basketball player with tons of potential but an attitude that even the Memphis Grizzlies don’t want. So even though you may get your Hall of Fame call, don’t expect to have many ex-teammates or ex-coaches there to share your moment.
