Last week, I had the distinct pleasure of watching Tropic Thunder for the first time. I was generally pleased. Sure, it was a ridiculous comedy with over the top plot lines and completely unrealistic situations, but that is probably why I liked it. Between all of the tomfoolery, I couldn’t help but notice the insane performance departure given by Tom Cruise. His foul mouth, hip hop dancing character stole the show and this past week it earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor. By now, you’ve probably heard about the “Plaxico Burress shot himself” scandal. Yes, the outstanding NFL wide-receiver who makes a living catching balls dropped his concealed gun at NYC nightclub and accidentally shot himself. I’m sure between now and Christmas, we’ll be hearing more and more details about the prosecution, attempted cover-up, Antonio Pierce as a poor-man’s Al Cowlings, and much more. Don’t know if you’ve been following the possible Isiah overdose story… don’t know if you care. There is one piece of the story, a very disturbing piece, that I wanted your take on. Here’s the scoop: Last week, police responded to a call to Isiah Thomas’ home. The report says the police found a 47-year old man passed out on the floor due to an overdose on sleeping pills (FYI - Isiah is a 47-year old man). After this story hit the news, Isiah responded to the report by saying it wasn’t him but it was his 17-year old daughter that overdosed as she is suffering from depression at this time.

Ok, the police report verifies that it was a 47-year old male treated, not a 17-year old female. Police Chief David Hall said, “As parents, you try to protect your kids; you don’t say they did something when it was you who did it. We know the difference between a 47-year old man and a teenager.” Mestew Nation, what are your thoughts on Isiah using his teenage daughter as a cover-up?

Why do we care who Colin Powell endorses for the President of the United States? Is he an authority on who is best to lead this country? Well, maybe he is more of an authority than a newspaper, talk show host, or even worse, an A-list celebrity. We here at Mestew are all for hearing logical, well thought out reasons to vote for either candidate. When I ran across this voting strategy, I knew that I had to share it with the Nation. I will warn you that there are a few words spoken that may not be suitable for younger ears, but those people aren’t old enough to vote anyway.
