What’s Next for the Detroit Lions?

Never before has an NFL football team finished their season with an 0-16 record. This year, the Detroit Lions have managed to make history. Growing up, I was never a huge NFL fan. And if I had to pick a team, it was Dan Marino’s Miami Dolphins. There was a time when I could have worn a different Marino jersey or Dolphins’ shirt for each day of the week. Funny how I never liked the Lions for two particular reasons: 1) too many people I didn’t like loved the Lions (also why I’m not a Red Wings fan); and 2) the passing game is far more entertaining to me than the running game. Barry Sanders was the Lions growing up and that just didn’t interest me.
Why am I a Lions fan now more than ever? It actually started a few years ago. I was able to score two tickets to the Lions vs. Bears game at Soldier Field that were two rows behind Detroit’s bench. I can actually pinpoint the play that sparked my Lions fandom - Roy Williams was under-thrown near the sideline and reached over the defensive back with one arm to reel in the catch - and it happened right in front of me. Since then, I’ve gone to most of the Lions vs. Bears games played each year. So now I have a team and they are the worst in NFL history. So what can the Lions do to make them watchable again? Well, this is my idea… (more…)
