Dead Boner

Kirk Cameron is a crazy religious zealot. Tracy Gold has dealt with a myriad of eating issue. The kid that played Ben Seaver went to prison. Up until today, the kid that played “BONER” was the most normal thing about growing pains…well him and Leo DiCaprio. That has changed. Today his body was found; a death the result of suicide. Rest in piece Boner! Boy, I tried not to snicker when I said that. What, too soon?

The Tale of Silent Bob and his Fat Ass

Kevin Smith is known for his movies and love of all things nerd. His successful string of films include some of my all-time favorites: “Clerks”, “Mallrats”, and “Dogma.” All of this is to say nothing of his keen acting ability that has been put on display in unforgettable classics such as “Live Free or Die Hard.” OK, I was kidding there. Anyway, his acting chops did not avail him recently when he tried to convince a Southwest Airline flight crew that he was indeed not too fat to ride their ride. …

Winter Olympics start tomorrow

This morning while listening to Mike & Mike, they brought up the fact that the Winter Olympics start tomorrow. So what did I do? I said “oh” and went back to finding what I was going to wear for the day (FWIW, I chose my blue, horizontal-striped sweater thing and khakis). That was the extent of my excitement. I try to think of what Winter Olympic sports grab my attention… none. I remember the days of Kristi Yamaguchi and Nancy Kerrigan, Bonnie Blair and Dan Jansen on the speed skates, …

Stop complaining about Super Bowl commercials

“Eh, there were a couple good ones but overall, they weren’t as good as in year’s past.”
I’d have to think 9 out of 10 Super Bowl watchers muttered something like this after watching the highly anticipated ads from the big game. Now think back. You’ve probably said this the past few years too. Why? Because you’ve set the bar too high. When you think of year’s past, you’re thinking of every single Super Bowl commercial you can remember from a span of years. So pretty much, you’re comparing one year’s …

Local model, Bo Pratt

When citizens of Mestew Nation impress us, we love to give out some positive PR. Today, I’m happy to share our man, Bo Pratt, is in the latest Pepsi campaign. He’s making his way up the ladder, starting with some collegiate ads a while back, to the cover of the MTA Sport version of the “Perfect Pushup” and now going international with Pepsi. Look for him at around the :28 second mark. He’s the dude in the bottom, right corner – then moves to the middle, right square a second …

Another Enthralling Pro Bowl Game

Authored by guest contributor, Brian Meyers.
Another year of NFL football down, and now we approach another enthralling Pro Bowl game! The game that no one cares about, including avid football fans. Each year the game becomes more and more pointless. More and more players continue to turn it down, while the NFL tries to spin the event into comparable money making All-star venues of other professional sports. But the Pro Bowl lacks many key features that make it even marginally interesting. Basketball has the Dunk Contest, Baseball has Homerun derby, …

Conan the Barbarian!!!

Conan O’Brien and Jay Leno are at war over the same time slot. NBC has decided to bow down to Leno and let his chin to the talking. What a rip off! Leno had his run and left on what was pre-determined as his own terms. He had over 5 years to ride off into the sunset and make way for his replacement. He could have done it gracefully, but no. He took his act on to the 10PM time slot and failed miserably. When it finally came time to …

Down with street solicitors

One of the many things I hated about living in Chicago were the damn street solicitors. Every single street corner and sometimes even at mid-block, these bastards would hit people up for “a minute for the environment” or “a moment to save the children.” I can bet I’m not the only person that did this, but I would often choose what side of the street I would walk on depending on where these people were standing. A common thought to myself was, “oh, they’re standing in between me and Potbelly, …

Estew’s Bowl Season Bonanza

OK, I still hate the BCS. This year it probably got it right, but I still hate it. How cool would a 8 team playoff of Alabama, Texas, TCU, Boise St, Cincinnati, Florida, Ohio St., Oregon and Georgia Tech be? Very cool, that’s how cool! Anyway, Alabama/Texas is sure to be a great game…but not the best game. Let’s see how the schedule shakes out.
The “No Respect” Bowl- - Utah vs. California: Great offenses=great fun. I look forward to these fast teams, but it will pass without much hype.
The “Whogivesacrap” Bowl- Insight …

Remembering When ‘Men Were Men’

Ever heard the old saying, “When Men Were Men”? It has its fair share of variations, but you get what I’m saying. Those four words talk about a time when masculinity was something to be proud of. It talks about a time when heroes were actors like John Wayne and Arnold Schwarzenegger, performers jumped around on stage for the opportunity to get flashed and meet a Backstage Betty, and little boys had swords and guns as toys. When did it become “not cool” to be a man? Where was the …
