Dead Boner

Kirk Cameron is a crazy religious zealot. Tracy Gold has dealt with a myriad of eating issue. The kid that played Ben Seaver went to prison. Up until today, the kid that played “BONER” was the most normal thing about growing pains…well him and Leo DiCaprio. That has changed. Today his body was found; a death the result of suicide. Rest in piece Boner! Boy, I tried not to snicker when I said that. What, too soon?

The Tale of Silent Bob and his Fat Ass

Kevin Smith is known for his movies and love of all things nerd. His successful string of films include some of my all-time favorites: “Clerks”, “Mallrats”, and “Dogma.” All of this is to say nothing of his keen acting ability that has been put on display in unforgettable classics such as “Live Free or Die Hard.” OK, I was kidding there. Anyway, his acting chops did not avail him recently when he tried to convince a Southwest Airline flight crew that he was indeed not too fat to ride their ride. ...

Winter Olympics start tomorrow

This morning while listening to Mike & Mike, they brought up the fact that the Winter Olympics start tomorrow. So what did I do? I said “oh” and went back to finding what I was going to wear for the day (FWIW, I chose my blue, horizontal-striped sweater thing and khakis). That was the extent of my excitement. I try to think of what Winter Olympic sports grab my attention… none. I remember the days of Kristi Yamaguchi and Nancy Kerrigan, Bonnie Blair and Dan Jansen on the speed skates, ...

Stop complaining about Super Bowl commercials

“Eh, there were a couple good ones but overall, they weren’t as good as in year’s past.”
I’d have to think 9 out of 10 Super Bowl watchers muttered something like this after watching the highly anticipated ads from the big game. Now think back. You’ve probably said this the past few years too. Why? Because you’ve set the bar too high. When you think of year’s past, you’re thinking of every single Super Bowl commercial you can remember from a span of years. So pretty much, you’re comparing one year’s ...

Local model, Bo Pratt

When citizens of Mestew Nation impress us, we love to give out some positive PR. Today, I’m happy to share our man, Bo Pratt, is in the latest Pepsi campaign. He’s making his way up the ladder, starting with some collegiate ads a while back, to the cover of the MTA Sport version of the “Perfect Pushup” and now going international with Pepsi. Look for him at around the :28 second mark. He’s the dude in the bottom, right corner – then moves to the middle, right square a second ...

Enough of the Speculation! The 10 Best are…

With all the NFL playoff buzz, we have been inundated with questions of “who is the best QB of all time.” Is it Favre? Manning? Brady? Perhaps a throwback like Unitas or Tarkenton? How about Elway, Marino, or Montana? Enough is enough! If you wanted to kn ow, you should have just asked me from the beginning. Here is how I see it…
First off, let me explain that I will not rank anyone that didn’t play during my lifetimeof memory. I didn’t see them play (or was too young to remember), ...

It’s a Dog Tweets Dog World

So who out there is following Mestew on Twitter? If you’re not, you should be! And if Mestew had a dog, you could potentially follow that bitch on Twitter too. That’s right, Mattel has invented a great device for dogs to wear that sends out Tweets when the dog barks or moves. It’s called Puppy Tweets and I’m sure they’re flying off the shelves at your favorite pet store. When I read this story for the first time, the first thing that went through my head was, “it’s about time!” ...

Another Enthralling Pro Bowl Game

Authored by guest contributor, Brian Meyers.
Another year of NFL football down, and now we approach another enthralling Pro Bowl game! The game that no one cares about, including avid football fans. Each year the game becomes more and more pointless. More and more players continue to turn it down, while the NFL tries to spin the event into comparable money making All-star venues of other professional sports. But the Pro Bowl lacks many key features that make it even marginally interesting. Basketball has the Dunk Contest, Baseball has Homerun derby, ...

Local artist, Lukas Pederson

I had the pleasure of meeting Lukas last summer in the Kalamazoo Wiffle League. While talking after games one evening, he had mentioned that he played some local guitar gigs. One of which was a reoccurring session Wednesday nights at University Roadhouse. So, being the supportive friend that I am, I ventured over to give him a listen. Now Lukas is a star on the Wiffle ball field, but that’s nothing compared to his sound on the stage. He’s easily the best solo act I can remember hearing. He mixes in requests ...

Fantasy Baseball

For those of you that know me, y’all know I’m a baller… fantasy baller! Yes, I’m a huge fan of the show The League and I probably laughed the hardest in Knocked Up when Paul Rudd gets busted at a fantasy baseball draft. I accept the fact that what existed of my coolness may have taken a huge hit with these admissions, but I am who I am. Fantasy baseball is within sight and one of my two leagues has just started its draft. Oh by the way, if fantasy ...
